Destiny 2 Cross-Save is up and running: Here's how it works and all the answers to your questions
Destiny 2's cross-salvage feature is launching, with the upcoming Shadowkeep expansion and the free-to-play new version of Light, both of which will be available on October 1. Cross-save is a system that will allow you to import your Guardians, your statistics, and your progress between Destiny 2's PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Google Stadia versions, so you can continue even if you choose to switch platforms. Bungie has published a helpful cross-saving guide explaining everything you need to know. We've summarized it below for your convenience, but the bottom line is that cross-remembering is great (after you make it work).
How long will the release of cross-recording begin?
The Cross Saving feature will start deploying on August 21
st. Update : Cross-savings support has slowed down and now Bungie has released a new time to start cross-saving. It is still coming today, but a few hours later than previously announced. You can see the new times below. Update 2: Cross-save is now officially live. You can go to the Bungie Cross Saving website to verify each of your accounts now before deciding which one will be your "active" account. Some players have had problems during this process, but after going through this, they seem to be working as intended.]
Which platforms support cross-preservation?
All of them: PS4, Xbox One, and All PCs are currently running, and the upcoming Stadia will support cross-savings.
Does this mean you can play with friends on other platforms?
Unfortunately, if you play on the PlayStation 4, it still can't play with your friends on the Xbox One; it's a cross-preservation, not a cross game. However, this means that if you skip to the Xbox One version in this scenario, you will not need to run a new character.
Can cross-preservation be used to merge Guardians or Collections built across platforms? No. If you've already played through the game and mixed two characters into two systems, there is no way to bring these characters together in the same account, unfortunately. The point is to choose a primary account and transfer your savings to other systems. The same goes for Silver, so keep that in mind.

Do previous system purchases occur?
No, unfortunately. As your equipment and elements move between platforms, your expansion content and Silver do not. As a result, you will need to spend Silver on the platform it was purchased from. In addition, certain paid DLC files – Forsaken, Annual Pass and upcoming Shadowkeep – will need to be purchased on any platform where you want to access its relevant content.
Can I disable cross-recording?
If you want to do this – because, perhaps, you decide to prefer to split your storage files between systems – you can. However, after you do this, there is a 90-day wait for you to activate Rescue. This is done to discourage the recovery of accounts from other players.
How much does it cost?
Completely free! When the new version of Free Light for Destiny 2 plays, you will be able to conveniently transfer your Guardian and everything you own between systems without spending a penny. As noted above, you will not be able to access certain content without purchasing the appropriate extension on any platform you want to play it on. The new light will allow you to access the main game and the first year of the DLC, but you will be restricted from participating in, say, the new Menagerie or Shadowkeep Raid.
What impact will this have on my clans? Your active account can only be included in one Destiny clan, which will become your clan in all the platforms you play on that account. Your active account occupies one slot for a player in your Clan Roster, no matter how many systems the account is active. You will only have access to Clan teammates who are on the same platform as you at any given time. However, the objective progress of the clan is transferred between systems.
