(NewsNation Now) – Shortly before 9:00 PM CST, some Facebook users started reporting problems with the social media mobile app, forcing them to log in and out again. Facebook said the exit was caused by a “configuration change.”
The company did not provide details about the configuration change that led to the mass release. Users have reported that they need to log back into their accounts. Many users received the message “the session has expired.” The so-called mass release has led to many questions on social media platforms, as the topic appeared on Twitter.
As for this author, I personally encountered the logout event on the Facebook app around 9pm, but I had no problems logging in again after seeing the message “session expired”.
After you logged in again, the first post at the top of my Newsfeed was by a colleague from the NewsNation WIAT affiliate who reported experiencing the same thing from the comments, so many of the people who follow her page:
A quick search on Twitter showed that many others had encountered the same problem, with several having trouble obtaining two-factor authentication text to regain access to their account, or simply not remembering their password.
DownDetector.com, a website where users can report problems with various websites and services, showed a jump in Facebook-related reports starting around 8:40 p.m. CDT. 84% of the reports are related to entry.
A quick survey of colleagues at NewsNation’s partner stations revealed that others in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana and Illinois have all been forced out of the Facebook app.
In a statement to NewsNation late Friday, a Facebook spokesman said:
“We know that at the moment some people have problems accessing Facebook. We work for the fastest possible recovery. “
So far, Facebook has not publicly acknowledged the apparent widespread release event.
