Discord has banned the r / WallStreetBets server, the company confirmed On the edge. Reddit WallStreetBets’ subddit is the engine of an unprecedented stock rally on GameStop and has received a lot of press attention as stocks continue to rise.
Discord says it has not banned the financial fraud server – rather, it has been banned because it continues to allow “hateful and discriminatory content after repeated warnings.” On the edge gain access to the server and can confirm the allegation that channel users have spammed hated language, including racial slander.
Here is Discord̵
The server has been on our trust and security team’s radar for some time due to random content that violates our community guidelines, including hate speech, glorification of violence, and dissemination of misinformation. In the last few months, we’ve sent numerous alerts to the server administrator.
Today we decided to remove the server and its owner from Discord, as we continue to allow hateful and discriminatory content after repeated warnings.
To be clear, we have not disabled this server due to financial fraud related to GameStop or other promotions. The rift welcomes a wide variety of discussions on personal finance, from investment clubs and day traders to students and professional financial advisers. We monitor this situation and in case there are allegations of illegal activities, we will cooperate with the authorities if necessary.
r / WallStreetBets is described as “4chan found a Bloomberg terminal” and many subreddit comments contain offensive language.
If you managed to enter the Discord, it was chaotic, with a fast pace and many voices talking at the same time. Check out this video from my colleague Tom Warren to get an idea of what it was (note: you may want to turn down the volume before clicking play, as the voices are quite loud):
