Disneyland California to host Covid-19 ‘super’ vaccination site

(CNN) – Disneyland in Anaheim will soon be the first “super” vaccination site Covid-19 in Orange County, California, officials said Monday.

The resort will be one of several “super POD” sites where thousands of residents will be able to get vaccinated every day, officials said. It will work later this week.

“Disneyland, the largest employer in the heart of Orange County, has stepped up to host the county̵
7;s first Super POD site – taking on a monumental task in our vaccination distribution process,” said Andrew Doe, acting chairman of the board. County Supervisory Authorities, in a statement.

More “super POD sites” will be announced after the agreements are finalized, officials said.

The population of the county is about 3.1 million. More than 190,000 people have tested positive for Covid-19 since the pandemic began, and more than 2,100 have died, according to the county.

About 2,221 people remain hospitalized with the virus, more than 500 of whom are in intensive care units.

The county is currently vaccinating people who are in phase 1a – critical and health workers, as well as people aged 75 and over. Those who meet the criteria must schedule an appointment to be vaccinated on the Super POD website, the county said.

“It’s important to vaccinate as many people as possible about Covid-19 and we need a place to do it,” said supervisor Donald P. Wagner in a statement. “Thanks to Disneyland and Anaheim for stepping up their shared efforts to protect OK residents from the virus.”
