Disneyland fans gather in front of theme park to protest monthly closure

ANAHEIM, California, (KABC) – Fans, employees and others gathered in front of Disneyland on Saturday morning in hopes of putting pressure on government officials to reopen the theme park, which has been closed since March 14 due to COVID-19.
pandemic.

The rally comes weeks after Disney announced it would lay off 28,000 employees, in part because of the reluctance of Gov. Gavin Newson and other government officials to remove restrictions that would allow the park and others in the state to reopen.

“We want to see Disneyland reopen. I am one of the 28,000 players who are currently laid off, dropped out since March,” said one official. “If Disneyland is open all over the world, why can̵

7;t Disneyland in Anaheim not be open? I think the governor should give us a chance to open and they keep asking, but he keeps pushing the bar back.”

Although Disneyland and Disney California Adventure remain closed, Downtown Disney is open for business.

Newsom said it was taking a cautious approach to reopening the California economy after earlier efforts led to a big jump in coronavirus cases that lasted weeks and led to many open businesses that had to close for a second time.
