DMPD makes an arrest, identifies a 16-year-old victim in the shooting



The Des Moines Police Department arrested the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old child early Saturday morning. At around 4:43 a.m., authorities were called to Broadlawns Medical Center, where the victim of the shooting was receiving medical treatment. Police found that Elijah Edwardley Brown-Townsend, 16, of Des Moines, had been treated but later died of a gunshot wound. Authorities arrested Thomas Londeva Ivey, 18, of Des Moines on Saturday night with manslaughter and gunfire. Police said Ivy and Brown-Townsend were in a parked vehicle at the store in block 2300 of MLK Jr. Parkway. Des Moines police said evidence showed Ivy had a gun and turned it over to Brown Townsend when the gun was fired. “The dumping of the firearm seems accidental,”
