She has released numerous Christmas albums, appeared in several Christmas movies created for television, and staged the annual Smoky Mountain Christmas extravaganza at her theme park in Tennessee, Dollywood. But this year the Queen of the country is really coming out.
For 2020, Parton has a new Christmas album, Holly Dolly Christmas; new movie for Netflix, Dolly Parton Christmas in the square; and a one-hour special holiday that will air on CBS on Dec. 6. Parton loves to get into the holiday spirit. The Multicolored Coat singer told the magazine that Christmas “has always been my favorite holiday.”
“Christmas means everything to me … I often dress like Santa and wear red, white and green during the Christmas holidays,” she said.
For Parton, the Christmas holidays include getting up early and cooking while she plays Christmas carols. The 9 to 5 star said her husband Carl Dean retains that mind when shopping for her gifts.
“Carl often buys me things like aprons or gloves. People laugh when they find out. They ask, “What does your husband give you?” Thinking it will be a diamond ring! But he just buys me what he knows I really want, “she said. Her husband of more than 50 years also keeps love alive by writing poems to his wife while she writes him songs.
How Dolly Parton plans to celebrate Christmas in 2020
The pandemic has forced many Americans to rethink their vacation plans, and Parton is no exception. She says she will do her best to make the day memorable while keeping everyone safe. (She told Good Housekeeping that Dean was not in good health.)
“I will still try to make Christmas special this year,” she said. “I have several sisters and several nieces and nephews who live nearby in Nashville, so I hope to be able to spend Christmas with a limited number of families.”
Like many others, Parton will also host virtual gatherings this year.
“Of course, we’ll call all our friends, Zoomin ‘and FaceTimein’, the ones we won’t be able to see,” she said. “I just hope we find a way to be safe together. All I want for Christmas this year is joy and peace. “
