Domino’s Pizza has announced the start of its autonomous pizza delivery. Partnering with Nuro, the pizza chain said some of its customers will now be able to choose to have their pizza delivered by Nuro’s R-2 robot.
The Nuro R-2 is a fully autonomous road vehicle. This means that there will be no delivery driver to greet you at the door with your order. Instead, the robot will take the order to the address and customers will receive a pin to retrieve their order when it arrives.
“Customers who are selected will receive text alerts that will update them at the R2 location and provide them with a unique PIN code to retrieve their order. Customers can also track the vehicle via GPS on their order confirmation page. “Once R2 arrives, customers will be prompted to enter their PIN on the bot̵
Customers who order from the Woodland Heights location at 3209 Houston Avenue can choose to have their pizza delivered by Nuro’s R-2 robot.
“We are excited to continue to innovate in delivery for Domino customers by testing autonomous delivery with Nuro in Houston,” said Dennis Malone, senior vice president and chief innovation officer of Domino. “There is still so much for our brand to learn about autonomous delivery space. This program will allow us to better understand how customers respond to deliveries, how they interact with the robot, and how this affects store operations. Growing demand the big-pizza tasting creates the need for more deliveries and we look forward to seeing how stand-alone delivery can work together with existing Domino delivery experts to better support customer needs. ”
