The Seattle Seahawks have used George Font in a variety of roles over the past two seasons. He served as a backup in both left and right hands, and also played a handful of snaps at the tight end, effectively serving as the sixth liner of plays.
Now that the Seahawks have tight end Luke Wilson – who is a much better blocker than Nick Vannett – and with the struggles of Germain Ifeedy on the right, many feel that Fant should get a chance to compete for this starting job .
However, while Phant has not yet gone the route or caught Pete Carroll, he is still very confident in his role this season and it doesn't sound like he will be taking Ifeedy soon.
"We use it in other ways," Carol commented Wednesday. "He gives us a great benefit from being able to play both sides and the other things we do with him. We really like the role he has. He could play easily. He can play on both sides. "
Fant is a solid blocking pass, but Ifedi gets him in the run defense and with Carroll's desire to attack on the ground it makes sense to use Ifedi as a starter.
Fant, and Jamarko Jones, will both be considered if Ifedy's struggles get worse, or if he gets hurt, but for now, it looks like Seattle's starting offensive line will remain intact in Week 4 against the Cardinals.
