Drew Bryce does not look like someone who is preparing to retire from the NFL.
Brees coach Todd Dirkin posted a video on social media on Saturday showing Saints quarterback pushing a weighed sleigh through a parking lot and including the captain: “I’m not sure WHY he’s so crazy today, but something needs to be prepared …”
Brees were expected to retire shortly after the Saints season ended in a playoff loss to the Buccaneers on January 17. But it still isn’t – and the longer he waits, the more he suggests he may reconsider.
The video he is working on fiercely will not allay these suspicions. Here is an excerpt from the comment in the video: “Drew, what are you doing? Well, he never did that! . . . I don̵
Bryce was also expected to retire in the final off-season before reversing in March and signing a two-year contract.
“Last year he joined the Saints coaching staff at the Pro Bowl and they cried because it was his last game. He was retiring, “Adam Shefter of ESPN told The Rich Eisen Show this week. “And then he took a break and came back in March.”
Bryce recently agreed to reduce his salary in 2021 from $ 25 million to the league’s minimum to help the Saints navigate hell. This was interpreted as a sign that he was retiring.
But Bryce pushes this sleigh like a man who plans to avoid racing, not one who keeps keeping up with his father.
Few players have managed to come up with a scenario to win a championship like John Elloway, Peyton Manning and Michael Strahan, but Bryce’s last game was a three-time failure against Tom Brady. That didn’t suit the NFL leader at all times when crossing the yard.
“I’m not saying he’s coming back. I still think he will retire, “said Schefter. “I don’t think these things are black and white and he’s still ready to go out the door, although in the end I think that will be the solution.”
