The Indian space agency ISRO expressed its gratitude for the support it received after losing contact with the Vikram land during its ambitious lunar mission, Chandrayan 2, earlier this month.
"Thank you for standing by us. We will continue to move forward – driven by the hopes and dreams of Indians around the world!" ISRO tweeted.
ISRO planned to land the lunar probe at the south pole to find water in the permanently shaded areas around it. However, when the landing gear was at an altitude of 2.1 kilometers, the ISRO control room lost contact with it.
The historic moon landing attempt has been lauded in India and abroad. Prime Minister Modi, who was in the control room at the time, turned to ISRO scientists hours after losing ground contact.
"In our glorious history, we have encountered moments that may have delayed us, but they have never crushed the spirit. We jumped again and continued to do great things. That is why our civilization stands tall, "he said, urging scientists not to be discouraged.
Prime Minister Modi comforted ISRO chief K Sivan after it collapsed publicly.
The Space Agency and Dr. Sivan received massive support. Politicians from around the world have also praised the agency for its efforts
The ISRO moon landing attempt was also praised by NASA, which said, "Space is difficult. We recommend ISRO's attempt to land their Chandrayan Mission 2 south of L. You have inspired us with your journey and look forward to exploring the future of our solar system together. "
Dr. Sivan had said that scientists would continue to contact Chandrayan 2 Vikram Kattel for 1
