Tesla Model S is about to become a little cheaper.
Tesla CEO and resident meme manufacturer, Elon Musk just tweeted that the Model S sedan will soon be priced at $ 69,420. This pricing is not done on a whim and jointly. The price cuts are probably in response to the undercutting of Lucid by Tesla’s prices a few hours ago.
As you can see in the tweet above, Elon Musk states that “the glove is thrown down.”
Earlier today, Lucid announced that its initial sedan would cost $ 77,400 minus a $ 7,500 tax credit. Since most buyers qualify for the loan, this reduces the effective cost to $ 69,900. You see where that goes, don’t you?
With a new starting price of $ 69,420, this would be the second price reduction of the Model S this week. CNET’s roadshow announced yesterday that the carmaker quietly cut $ 3,000 from the Model S earlier this week, possibly in an attempt to surpass Lucid before it was announced today. Earlier this year, Tesla cut $ 2,000 from the starting price of the Model 3.
Lucid Air is emerging as a serious contender for Tesla 3’s Model 3. The air has the full range of the Model 3 – even the entry-level version, which is priced today, corresponds to the Model 400’s 400+ range. , faster and, frankly, newer. The Model S still has the same overall shape and feel from its 2012 launch.
In a recent interview with TechCrunch, Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson told editor Darrell Etherington that Air would be available at a “surprisingly low price of $ 80,000.” Although today’s pricing is hardly “surprising”, it puts Lucid Air in the same price range as the well-equipped mid-range European sports cars and, more importantly, the Tesla Model S.
