Following the release of version 87 for Android, Mac, Windows and Linux, the next version of Google’s browser is launched. Chrome 88 launches the new year with many changes.
After changing your website credentials, Google prompts you to update this password the next time it is entered. Chrome now allows users to manually “Edit password”From the central list of chrome: // settings / passwords. Offered from the overflow menu, this feature comes with Chrome 88 on desktops and iOS – Android coming soon. If it is not yet available after updating the browser, you can manually enable this feature with a flag:

Chrome 88 is gradually releasing a new one “Chip” user interface for granting site permissions. It will be less intrusive if you reside in the address bar with an accompanying icon. As it is not in the content area, users do not have to close the prompt before they can view this page. In the example below, tap “Are you using your location?” And a “Enable / Block” pop-up window appears.
Version 88 will stop supporting Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite, with Chrome, which requires 10.11+ to move forward.
When Chrome is screen sharing, notifications will only appear after the session ends or manual approval.
Back in November, Chrome 87 saw significant speed improvements and increased battery life by limiting the timers in the backgrounds section to once per minute. This change is available to all users in this version.
Last year, Google only tested the display of a registered domain in the box for everything to fight how long URLs that include the correct page name are often used to trick people into thinking they are on a desired / respected site. For some Chrome 88 users, the address bar will only show the domain not the full URL. Google plans to fully release this change in a future release. This shortcut can be disabled by right-clicking on the address bar and selecting “Always show full URLs”.
Chrome is committed to protecting users against web forms which are loaded over HTTPS but send content over HTTP. Version 88, after a delay, shows an interstitial warning after users pause the action until they click “Send anyway”.
Chrome 88 will block the download of macOS, Windows, Linux, and Chrome OS users unsafe image, audio, video and text formats (such as .png and .mp3) over HTTP on an HTTPS page. This “[file] cannot be downloaded securely ”the message is in the download bar.
Developers can start posting Manifest V3 Extensions to the Chrome Web Store, as Chrome 88 now has support for the latest version editing. This new platform is designed to be more secure, confidential and improve performance. For more information on the changes, read our explanatory note from last month.
Google is testing PWA’s ability to sell digital goods and subscriptions through Play Billing as part of the new Digital Goods API. The trial run starts on Android before expanding to Chrome OS in the next version. Chrome also tests the ability of websites to detects when users are inactive. The messaging app, for example, can use this to determine if you’re not / aren’t active on your computer and direct notifications to your phone instead.
