We hear rumors and see evidence of a device similar to the Apple Tile for tracking personal belongings. Now, with the release of iOS 13.2, we can confirm that this device will be called "AirTag".
A file system folder for the latest version of Apple's mobile operating system likely confirms the name "AirTag" for the new device, which will pair with the user's iPhone, just like AirPods, and allow users to track every item, using the Find My app.
These assets are currently substitutes containing images of AirPods, HomePods and other devices, so they do not reveal much about the actual design of the product. One of the features confirmed by the assets is the ability to change the battery of the product since it has a video asset called "BatterySwap".
It is not yet clear when Apple plans to announce the new device, but it may be announced this week given its presence on the OS. These types of assets can be remotely updated by Apple, so substitutes do not say much about whether they will ship soon or not.
