Ezzo Sausage recalls meat products due to possible listeria contamination



WASHINGTON, November 9, 2019 – Ezzo Sausage Company, an establishment in Columbus, Ohio, recalls approximately 25,115 kilograms of sausage products that can be adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes Ministry of Land The United States Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The problem was discovered when the company notified FSIS of a positive test result for Listeria monocytogenes .

Consumption of food contaminated with L. monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that affects predominantly elderly adults, individuals with a weakened immune system, and pregnant women and their newborns. Persons outside these risk groups are less likely to be affected.

Listeriosis can cause fever, muscle aches, headaches, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions, sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. The invasive infection spreads beyond the gastrointestinal tract. In pregnant women, the infection can cause miscarriage, stillbirth, premature birth or a life-threatening infection of the newborn. In addition, serious and sometimes fatal infections in the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. Listeriosis is treated with antibiotics. Persons in higher risk categories who experience flu-like symptoms within two months of consuming contaminated food should seek medical attention and tell the healthcare provider about the consumption of contaminated food.
