A strange new Facebook app is launched and it is based on the return, E.gg is the latest creation from and aims to “restore this atmosphere” of the early network.
The About section of E.gg looks like a Geocities website of old schools and even has a GIF of the old 3D animated baby Oogachacka dancing baby – one of the first viral hits on the Internet.
“We started working on E.gg after several of us found that we lacked a certain raw and exploratory spirit that was so iconic for The Early Internet,” the developers wrote. “Of course, it was cumbersome to use – sometimes even dangerous – but in this awkward mess was a strange and lively bazaar of manipulatively flashing GIFs, passionate guestbook entries, personal web pages made by people who cared deeply for a niche interest from theirs and they just wanted to draw their digital space. “
E.gg can be used to create collages and mixed media pages for fan sites or around a page for your application. Once the iOS app launches, you can use it to create a “canvas” filled with GIFs, photos, and text by pasting this content anywhere on the page and selecting a URL to create.
The waiting list is now open and the application will be launched “mobile”. You can follow E.gg on Instagram. At the moment she has only 350 followers.
