A maximum of 4,000 fans will be allowed to take part in outdoor events in the lowest risk areas when the national lock in England ends on 2 December, BBC Sport has learned.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to announce the return of the crowds later Monday.

He will make a statement before the House of Commons and deputies will vote later this week.

Up to 2,000 fans will be allowed in the second level zones, but zero in the third level.

The measures should be part of the new restrictions on Covid-19 in England.

Elite sports continued behind closed doors during the four-week blockade of England, but mass and amateur sports were suspended on 5 November.

More to follow.
