FBI agents shot and wounded an armed suspect outside CIA headquarters in Virginia on Monday, the agency said.
The suspect was shot dead at about 6 p.m.
Security at the gates stopped the suspect, who repeatedly refused to move, the report said, citing two law enforcement officers.
Security officials tried to push the vehicle off the road. The suspect then got out of the car with a gun and was shot, the report said.
The FBI said the person was hospitalized. It is not clear what condition they were in on Monday night.
Two officers told NBC News that the suspect, who is identified as mentally unstable, had tried to sneak into the CIA facility several times in the past.
The shooting is under investigation.
“The review process is thorough and objective and is conducted as quickly as possible in the circumstances,” the FBI said in a statement.
