First case of human mosquito-borne virus in 2019 reported in Carolina, CDC confirms

The first case of Eastern equine encephalitis virus this year was reported in Katauba County, North Carolina. Eastern equine encephalitis is better known as "EEE". This is the first case reported in the Carolinas in 2019. "The EEE virus is a rare cause of brain infections. Only a few cases are reported in the US each year," according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. "The most common occur in the eastern or Gulf shores.
