Over the past decade, more Democrats have taken advantage of the practice of voting by mail, cutting the Republican advantage. But back in 2018, that advantage still existed, albeit more narrowly, with 1,808,000 Republicans and 1,027,000 Democrats voting by mail this year. This was still a significant gap: In the US Senate race that year, Scott defeated the current Bill Nelson (D) by 10,033 votes, and in the gubernatorial race, DeSantis’ winning margin over Andrew Gillum (D) was 32,463.
