Flying Lotus, FKA Twigs, Vince Clarke & More won the AIM 2020 Awards

Electronic artist Flying Lotus, singer and songwriter of FKA, Anglo-Indian jazz drummer Sarati Corwar and son-pop master Vince Clark were among the big winners after the Indian community gathered on Wednesday night (August 12th) for the 10-year-old AIM Independent Music Awards, held practically for the first time.

Flying Lotus recorded the best independent song (for “More” with Anderson .Paak) and Korwar’s More arriving brought out the best independent album.

“We feel like a real blessing to be able to receive a reward and be recognized in these times when they make us feel like our work is not essential and what we do is just anything,”

; he said. The flying lotus (real name Stephen Ellison). “So thank you for reminding us that what we do is very important.”

Also at night, FKA twigs are best packaged [difficult] second album for her critically acclaimed Magdalena, which peaked at number 21 on the UK’s Official Album Rankings last November, and Mois Boyd noted Britain’s excellent breakthrough awards.

One of the moments of the show’s theft came when Erasure reunited on stage for the premiere of his new single “Nerves of Steel,” a fitting moment as songwriter and pianist Vince Clark garnered a special recognition award, a new category. Clark was welcomed for his work at Erasure, Yazoo and the Hall of Famers Depeche Mode and “his outstanding contribution to synthesizers,” organizers said.

In the industry awards category, Helen Smith, executive chair of the independent music companies’ IMPALA lobbying organization, was named Indy Champion, and the late great drummer Tony Allen was posthumously honored for his outstanding contribution to the music award.

Allen’s career was marked by a performance starring Blur and Gorillaz frontman Damon Alburn and a special tribute curated by Femi Koleoso of Ezra Collective.

A pioneer drummer of afrobuti, Alan died on April 30 in Paris at the age of 79, leaving behind a significant legacy.

The Nigerian artist was well known for his work with Fela Kuti, and later for Albern’s The Good, the Bad and the Queen project, the French electronic duo Air, and others.

As he passed, Brian Hainaut praised Allen as “perhaps the greatest drummer who ever lived,” while the Red Chili Pepper Flea named him “one of the greatest drummers to ever tour the earth.”

As part of the celebration of Alan’s life and work, Coleozo chose a special locket that brought together Nizia Garcia, Mutale Chashi, Toby Adenaike, Elias Atkinson, Richie Severight, Deschanel Gordon and Junior Ali.
