Paris (Reuters) – France reported 13,498 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the previous 24 hours, setting another record in daily additional infections since the beginning of the epidemic.

The new cases led to a cumulative amount of 442,1

94, as the seven-day moving average of daily new infections rose to more than 9,700, from a low of 272 at the end of May, two weeks after the lock was lifted.

Faster circulation of the virus and a sixfold increase in tests since the government released it are the two main reasons for the scale of the increase, epidemiologists say.

The number of people in France who died from COVID-19 rose by 26 on Saturday to 31,274, a growth significantly lower than the previous day.

Health authorities announced a sudden jump in the daily death toll from COVID-19 in the country on Friday due to unreported cases at a hospital near Paris.
