After signing a two-year, $ 1.45 million deal with the Raptors, VanVleet struggles to find permanent minutes behind Kyle Lowry-DeMar DeRozan. After DeRozan was sent to San Antonio in the Kawhi Leonard deal two seasons ago, VanVleet helped fill the gap.
His real breakthrough came in the playoffs this season as VanVleet ignited a 3-point range after the birth of his son late in the Eastern Conference finals against the Milwaukee Bucks.
In the finals against the Golden State Warriors, VanVleet shot 40 percent with 6.7 attempts from 3 points per game to help the Raptors win their first NBA championship in the franchise.
VanVleet brought that momentum last season, averaging career highs. His 17.6 points per game are the most undefeated player, as Mike James scored 20.3 points per game against Toronto in the 2005-06 season.
Not just a sharp scorer, VanVleet averaged 6.6 assists last season and fouled almost four times per game. VanVleet is also a stubborn defender despite its size. He was third in the league in theft, averaging 1.9 per game.
