Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshu played well enough in the first two games of the season to prove that he is the franchise’s long-term quarterback, not just a reservoir for anyone in the 2021 draft. On Thursday night, he fights.
Minshew threw a catch, lost a mess, picked up four sacks, and generally didn’t look like a quarterback franchise in a 31-13 loss to the Dolphins.
“We had too many mistakes tonight – it’s simple and easy,” Minshu said.
Minshew struggled especially in the third drop (in which the Jaguars’ foul turned only three in 10 attempts) and the fourth fall (in which the Jaguars were 0-for-3). In the first two weeks, Minshew’s success in later declines clouded some bad play on the first and second declines. This is usually not sustainable in the long run, but on Thursday night the Jaguars looked like the recovery team everyone expected them to be.
