8:49 PM: The league announced that it also postponed the match on Saturday “Due to the abundance of caution and to allow additional tests and monitoring of behavior.”
8:29 PM The Padres-Giants game in San Diego on Friday was postponed after one of the San Francisco players took a positive test for coronavirus, said Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune.
“The game was postponed tonight due to a positive COVID test at Giants.” said Padres. “MLB will announce additional information on the status of our series with San Francisco as soon as possible.”
Both teams played on Thursday and are scheduled to end their series with a match on Sunday, but it is not clear now whether they will be able to go out on the field over the weekend. There are only two plus weeks left in the season, and as the Padres and Giants are battling for playoff spots, significant changes to their schedules could be detrimental. However, the league will have to make a decision that adheres to health and safety protocols. MLB has already seen that the virus is making significant changes to its schedule, especially for the Marlins and Cardinals.
