Thanks to a post yesterday on the official Google Developers blog, we can be absolutely sure that at least some of the “significant updates and product announcements” mentioned by Sundar Pichai in the earnings conversation earlier this week will be related to Google Assistant and smart home will happen in the Day 2 Google I / O main note. While that doesn’t mean smart home gadgets will be the only messages Google has to share, it at least makes us wonder what exactly in Google’s home stock we might see refreshed when I / O happens in just 18 days.
We will start news from Assistant with our main session, which will be broadcast live on May 19 at 9:45 PST. Expect to hear about what happened at Assistant last year, announcements of new products, feature updates and toolkit changes.
On the occasion of the 5th birthday celebration of Google Assistant, we will share our journey from “Smart Home” and the things we learned along the way. We will also immerse ourselves in the vision of the product, announcements of new products, and showcase the great Assistant experiences created by our developer community. Catch the main note of Smart Home on May 19 at 4:15 PM PST.

Since we just had an updated Nest Hub and the recently launched Nest Audio, we are very interested in exactly what Google has planned. As I said about Sundar Pichai’s comments on “significant updates and product announcements” in I / O, I’m really not sure what we might see. Although I would like to see a new replacement for the amazing Google Home Max, I just don’t know that the market is there for it. Could it be a refresh of the Nest Hub Max? Or is there a brand new device with Google Assistant along the way that we haven’t even considered?
Google is pretty awful at keeping things a secret, so if they have hardware that they’ve been able to keep a lid on for so long, I’ll be incredibly impressed. They obviously have some things to show, and maybe some of these new things will be partner products made with other companies, so none of them are on the radar right now. Or maybe Google has finally figured out how to keep their news tight and really have some big surprises up their sleeves. Nevertheless, I am quite excited about everything that appeared at the conference in less than 3 weeks. I / O is always a great showcase for what Google does and the feeling is that this year may be a little very special. We’ll find out soon enough.
