Google is known for overlapping multiple apps at once – just look at its messaging strategy. While Google Wifi and Nest Wifi have a special application for managing and monitoring network equipment from your phone, the Google Home application has been constantly acquiring similar features over the past few months. It seems that everything was part of the company̵
Although the special Wifi app will not be turned off immediately, from May 25, it will go into view-only mode. If you want to set up a new router, add an access point, or change any of your network preferences, you’ll need to migrate to Google Home. The app will be permanently removed from the Play Store sometime in June.
Google directly cites the growth of the smart home as the reason for the move. The Home app now controls almost every gadget made by the company. Creating specific software only for network equipment feels unnecessary.
