As a leading product of the company, the major changes in Google Search take some time to develop and have been seriously tested. Today, Google announced a significant redesign of what Mobile Search looks like, focusing on simplicity.
It starts at the top of the screen, where the search box is already visually raised by the company logo, profile avatar, and other elements. This added depth replaces the way the tape used to use faint gray outlines. The search filters that appear below are no longer capitalized, while the current category in question is simply highlighted in narrow black instead of blue.
Currently, the knowledge panels feature a large header that includes the name, category, and carousel, while the background is slightly thematic. The new design eliminates this separate top and makes it one with the information and image gallery ̵
One aspect of this redesign sees colors used “more deliberately to direct the eye to important information without being overwhelming or distracting.” For example, he focuses on the carousel of subtopics, which now shows each section in separate chips. A range of nuances – muted to bold – have been explored for this redesign, but Google has chosen a solid background to keep the focus on the content.

At the bottom of the page, the web results now extend from left to right. Although still stored in maps, the effect is much less obvious when Google moves away from the shadows. Overall, this helps provide more content space and results in a cleaner look that is less busy.
Another change shows that the Google Sans font is used in more places on a larger scale and more weight. The text in the company’s exclusive font is easier to read on a white background and much larger in places, such as in the Knowledge Graphs. This helps users to quickly scan the results.
“We want to let the search results shine, allowing people to focus on the information instead of the design elements around it.”
The purpose of this redesign of phones and other mobile devices is to facilitate the search by withdrawing everything else. It is available on the mobile network, as well as in the Android and iOS applications Google, starting today and will be widely available in the coming days. Desktop Search already has a similar redesign, but only for certain types of queries, such as those related to COVID-19.
