Early last month, Google launched new versions of iOS on the YouTube family of apps after a long, unspecified break. Gmail, Google Calendar, Docs and other apps were updated today in a seemingly normal return for iPhone and iPad owners.
Update 4/12: Last week Chrome for iOS saw bug fixes after no update since November. Other notable releases over the past month include Google Drive and Classroom, which received a faster homepage and a new comment attempt.
Meanwhile, Google Maps was updated today to version 5.65 of 5.58, released on December 1. There are no obvious changes with this update.
The latest update is from the Google app. Released on Sunday Night (PT), this app is home to Search, Show Discover and Google Lens visuals. The version notes for version 149.0 (from 137.2 on December 5, 2020) are quite general:
Bug fixes and performance improvements.
We’ve fixed user-reported issues and added new features to provide a better search experience.
Original 3/1: In the last few weeks, YouTube and YouTube Music have seen a handful of patches. Last Friday, Google Podcast received a new version, and on Monday you can see three major updates to the iPhone: Google Calendar, Gmail and Docs / Sheets / Slides.
For the email app, this is the first new update from December 1st. The notes in version 6.0.210124 indicate only “bug fixes and performance improvements”. The following is an error in which iPhone owners encountered the message “This application is out of date” when trying to sign in with a new Google Account.
The change logs for these other performance customers are just as vague. All updates today include application privacy details, although they were added earlier before these new versions. Some initially suggested that the lack of updates was due to Apple’s nutrition labels, but – for whatever reason – this is not a normal break during the winter holidays, as application development continues on the part of Android.
The disc was last updated in December, along with Google Search, Photos, and Maps. These apps do not yet have privacy labels. Chrome, meanwhile, remains at version 87, although it released 88 on all other platforms 41 days ago. The next browser update will start later this week.
However, the lack of new versions of applications has not affected the distribution of features, given how often Google uses updates from the server.
