Hayward was also plagued by various other injuries to the Celtics, a broken bone in his arm in November and dealing with nerve pain in his foot in December before suffering a sprained right ankle in Game 3 of the first playoff game round of Boston against the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA balloon at the Walt Disney World Resort.
He returned in the middle of the Eastern Conference finals against the Miami Heat, but struggled as Boston eventually lost six games in their third trip to the conference finals in the last four seasons.
In total, he missed 142 games (including the playoffs) after missing only 42 in his first seven seasons with jazz.
When the 30-year-old Hayward plays, he averages 13.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists with the Celtics. Last season, he became the Celtics’ first player with an average of at least 15 points in a 50% shot after Kevin Garnett in 2011-12.
Hayward signed a list of offers with Charlotte in 2014 as a limited free agent, but Utah Jazz responded to the offer and kept it.
In the last two years, the Celtics have lost two players with a maximum contract – Kyrie Irving and Hayward.
