Guilford County breaks records for new cases and daily hospitalizations, says health department | Local

GREENSBORO – Guilford County set two new records in the COVID-19 issue on Tuesday, the county health department said in a news release.

A total of 225 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Guilford County, marking the highest daily number of new cases to date and bringing the total to 11,041, according to the health department.

Daily hospitalizations have also reached their highest number since the beginning of the pandemic today. A total of 99 people were hospitalized Tuesday in Guilford County with coronavirus, the health department said, leading to a total of 770 since the start of the pandemic.

The health department said that these two “alarming” stages illustrate the growing spread of the virus in the community.

In a news release, Health Director Dr. Julia Van called on the public to contribute to slowing the spread of COVID-19.

“We have been fighting COVID-19 for eight long months and now is not the time to take down our guards,” Van said. – We must continue with all the tools at our disposal and with renewed strength and determination. We need everyone’s help in fighting this dangerous virus to slow down the spread of the community. ”

The health department urged people to do the following

  • Practice the three W’s – wear a mask, wait six feet apart, wash your hands – at all gatherings, including those with family and friends.
  • Avoid gathering in groups of 25 or more.
  • Encourage friends and family to wear a mask, especially when they get together.
