HUSTON “Harris County will release a waiting list on Tuesday for people who want to get the coronavirus vaccine.”
Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo said the list aims to create a fair way to distribute and administer the vaccine.
“Getting vaccinated against COVID-19 doesn’t have to be like the Hunger Games,” Hidalgo said. “It doesn’t have to be about who can click browser refresh the fastest.”
Hidalgo said the waiting list will be available on ReadyHarris.org or by calling 832-927-8787. The telephone line will be open from 8 am to 5 pm from Monday to Saturday and is available in English, Spanish and Vietnamese.
While anyone can register for the waiting list, only people who are eligible to receive the vaccine in phases 1A and 1B will be able to receive the shot at that time, Hidalgo said. She said the system would not be the system that came first. She said eligible persons would be subject to a randomization system to ensure that the administrative process is fair. She said people who do not currently qualify will contact them once they are eligible.
If you register online, you will receive a confirmation email. Once selected, you will receive another email with an individual identification code that invites you to schedule a time and date within 48 hours to receive the vaccine. If you register by phone and are selected, you will receive a phone call to make an appointment.
Hidalgo said Harris County Public Health has received 27,426 vaccines to date and the county receives about 9,000 doses a week. She said that while county leaders are pushing for more doses, the waiting list does not mean the county has a huge supply of vaccine.
“Supply remains extremely limited,” Hidalgo said.
She also said the county is working to build six fixed vaccination sites targeting those areas with the highest number of cases where there are cases, as well as those communities and neighborhoods that are underserved.
