Health officials warn West Nile-infected mosquitoes found in Jeffersonville

Mosquitoes infected with the West Nile virus have been discovered in the Southern Indiana area. According to a press release, the Clark County Health Department has collected mosquito samples in Eastern Jeffersonville near East 10th Street at the beginning of June. The samples tested positive for the West Nile virus. The Health Department says it will continue to monitor the mosquito's presence throughout the area until the temperatures cool down. Officials say residents should continue to take precautions to avoid being bit by mosquitoes. Protective clothing such as long-sleeve shirts and pants are highly recommended and residents should avoid being out late when mosquitoes are most active. People who contract the virus can experience fever, headaches and body aches before making a full recovery. For more information on how to prevent mosquito bites, click here.
