Seven years ago, Duncan Robinson played basketball for Williams College, a Division III school in Massachusetts with 2,000 students. On Saturday night, in the Miami Heat victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers, he became the fastest player to reach 500 3-points in NBA history.

Robinson had a typically strong performance, scoring 20 points in an effective 7 of 1

0 from the field, including six 3-points. It was his 15th game of the season with at least five three-pointers and he now has 222 of them this season, which is good for the fourth in the league.

The record-breaking tray came early in the third quarter as Robinson crossed the floor in transition and found some free wing space. He grabbed a pass from Trevor Ariza, took a dribble to settle, and let it fly. Nothing but a network.

Perhaps the most impressive aspect of Robinson’s recording is how he set it up quite easily. It took him only 152 games to reach 500 3 seconds, which was 35 games faster than Luka Doncic, the previous record holder. Here’s how he compares to some of the players who came before him.

This list really shows how much the game has changed over the years. Thompson is one of the best scorers of this generation, and Robinson reached 500 3s in 62 games less. Going even further, Larry Bird, considered one of the best scorers of all time, made only 649 3 seconds in his entire career.

If he maintains this pace, it can be assumed that Robinson will soon have a few more records in his field of vision.

As for the Heat, the win improved their record to 34-30 this season and they kept pace with the teams ahead of them in the playoff race of the Eastern Conference. They are now tied with the Boston Celtics for sixth place and a final guaranteed place in the playoffs, with two more games against them. And looking higher in the standings, they are only 1.5 games behind the Atlanta Hawks for fourth place.
