Heavy snow will lead to slippery roads tomorrow in Colorado

COLORADO, USA – A slow storm full of heavy, wet snow, combined with temperatures in the 1920s, is causing dangerous road conditions from Thursday night to Friday morning.

Winter weather tips are in effect for the mountains from the front ranges, foothills, the Denver subway and the eastern plains until noon Friday.

Look for 3-6 inches of snow on the Denver subway with 4-8 inches on the high side and foot. The eastern plains will rise to about 3-7 inches by noon on Friday, along with strong winds.

Morning driving can be icy and gloomy in places.

Those who plan to be on the road should give themselves extra time to slow down on the roads. It is recommended to organize a stay.

Chain and Traction Laws in Colorado

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) urged passengers to be aware of chain and traction laws before heading to the roadway:

  • Code 1
    8 / Commercial Chain Act:
Commercial vehicles and trucks must have chains. Chainless vehicles can often lose traction, causing traffic delays and sometimes road closures. For the safety of the traveling public, it is crucial to use chains to comply with Colorado’s chain law.
  • Code 15 / Passenger Traction Act: All passenger vehicles must have suitable tires for all weather conditions with a depth of 3/16 inch. Vehicles must have one of the following: winter tires, mud / snow (M + S) tires, chains or alternative traction devices, such as an automatic sock. 4WD and AWD vehicles must have winter tires or tires for all weather conditions.
  • Code 16 / Passenger Chain Act: All passenger vehicles need chains, with the exception of 4WD and AWD vehicles with all-weather tires with a 3/16-inch tread depth.
