Rodrigo, 17, co-starred with 20-year-old Joshua Bassett at Disney + Music High School: The Musical: The Series, and the two were rumored to be dating in real life.
In August 2020, Bassett was spotted having lunch with 21-year-old Sabrina Carpenter, a singer who became famous for her role as Maya on the Disney Channel. The girl meets the world. Sabrina’s sister, Sarah, was also present.
At Halloween 2020, Bassett and Carpenter dressed up as Shark Boy and Lava Girl and did a TikTok for what proved to be at least friends and sparked a couple of rumors (though they never confirmed).

Sabrina is 21 (four years older than Rodrigo) and is blond.
In an earlier version of the song, which Rodrigo posted on Instagram in July 2020, the lyrics refer to a “brunette” girl. Fans have begun speculating whether the change is related to Bassett’s time with Carpenter.
Olsen then moved on to the opening text: “I got my driver’s license last week / Just like we always talked.”
In a restored social media video from LeBlanc Updates on YouTube, Rodrigo recalled that he practiced driving in Bassett’s car before receiving his license and the moment the duo realized that the song they co-wrote, “Just for a Moment” “Will be used Music High School: The Musical: The Series. “We celebrated and went to In-N-Out, and I couldn’t actually drive. I was 16, but I didn’t have my permit,” she said. “So he took me in his car and we walked around the In-N-Out parking lot and that was the first time I drove.”
Finally, the heartbreaking line of the chorus, “I guess you didn’t mean what you wrote in that song about me,” the internet quilts looked for references to Rodrigo in Bassett’s previously released songs.
In July, Bassett released a sweet love song called “Anyone Else,” which includes lyrics: “How do I think about something else? / How do I keep this to myself? / I ended up pretending I wanted someone else.” Fans immediately remembered Rodrigo.
Again, nothing is confirmed about the love triangle of 2021, so we will have to wait and see if Rodrigo, Bassett or Carpenter say anything about speculation.
