SACRAMENTO, California – Do not call Jeep Gladiator 2020, the "Wrangler pickup," unless you're ready for a lecture by its owner.
For starters, the top Gladiator Rubicon is about 30 inches in length and 600 pounds heavier than the Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon with four doors.
The difference in the length and weight of the two jeeps is much larger than the gap between the Honda Civic Compact and the Accord Medium Sedan. Unlike its own weight, the Gladiator is designed to tow 7,650 pounds, more than twice the Wrangler Unlimited traction capacity of 3,500.

Any significant change in the weight of the vehicle almost all other aspects of its structure, such as shifting the spare wheel from the rear door of the Wrangler to the under-bed – where almost all the spare parts of the pickup go – means more changes, the whole rear suspension had to be reworked for that and to provide off-road capabilities, towing capacity and the ability to carry 1650 people and stuff in the cabin and bed.
More than just the outfit changed. Slots of the Jeep's seven-grid are larger in Gladiator, as the engine needs more cooling air when dragging a heavy trailer on a steep hill in hot weather. Jeep Gladiator Truck Finally Revealed in LA Auto Show

The rear brakes are also bigger because the rear brakes do more work with a load pulling pickups than in jeeps and cars carrying passengers.
So save yourself a lecture. When your neighbor joins his new gladiator, say: "A nice pickup. It's great how they designed it for a real truck. "
