How accurate were all those rumors and leaks about GTA V?

Auto Theft Auto V turned six years old last week and to celebrate it I wanted to look back at some from rumors that existed about the game before it was released. How accurate were they and what, if any, were they correctly predicting?

Six years is a long time and fans are getting more worried and excited by the follow-up to GTA V. And as fans get more desperate for information and leaks, rumors of GTA 6 are becoming more common. But do fans have to trust any of these rumors? How accurate were the rumors about GTA V before the game was released?

GTA V Will A A Police Officer Play (Or Maybe Not)

This is a rumor that has appeared in various places before the official announcement of GTA V . The exact details varied depending on the publication of the site or forum, but the basic idea was for players to control a rookie cop in Los Santos or Los Angeles. They will meet characters from GTA San Andreas and players will be able to arrest criminals, answer police calls and decide to be dirty or good cops.

Of course, all this was a complete leap of the jump and most GTA forums and fans seemed to realize that this rumor was complete rubbish. However, sometimes I see a mention of this rumor at the beginning of the official unveiling of the GTA V (19459020), so to some it seems true enough to share with others. One weird thing about this rumor is that in several places publishing this rumor, they predicted that GTA V would use a weapon wheel like Red Dead Redemption. But this is honestly just one clever assumption based on Rockstar's history of taking elements from past games and introducing them into future games.

But it wasn't just a cop who was rumored to be the star of GTA V. Another popular rumor claims that the star of the game is actually Albert De Silva, a man from Vice City who was established to have children in Los Santos. That sounds right in the history of GTA V but remember that rumor popped up after the first trailer. In this trailer, the main character explains that they wanted to start a family, settle down, etc. It is not difficult to predict the story when the trailer exposes the setting. The other details are also wrong because they are not revealed in the trailer, so whoever created this rumor had to fill in the gaps and guess.

Exit Cards

The Rockstar open-world games are known for their large and very detailed maps. So it makes sense for people to get excited about learning about the GTA V map long before the game is released. Because of this, many, many, MANY fake cards have been posted on the internet claiming to have leaked images of the real map GTA V .

Some of these maps seemed CURRENTLY plausible and were covered by various sites, including Kotaku .

But none of them turned out to be the true map. Some were close, most were just fantasies representing many cities and islands.

Sometimes, real cards will expire before the Rockstar release. For example, the map of GTA V expired a few days before its release, after some fans came across early copies of the GTA V strategy guide. And the Red Dead Redemption 2 card expired long before the game was released, back in 2016.

So These Things happen, but they are rare. More often than not, missed cards are just Photoshop creations made by trolls and bored fans.

Too Much To Be True Rumors

Many of the rumors and "leaks" that came out before the official unveiling and subsequent release of GTA V are filled with ideas that sound incredible and also, probably , impossible to actually apply. For example, several popular rumors floating around have claimed that the game will have seasons, with extreme weather such as snow and floods. None of this was true.

Other rumors suggest that many cities or Los Santos will be larger than the entire map of GTA IV and the outer province will be gigantic and filled with small cities.

Another popular rumor states that there will be a demonstration on E3 2013. This should immediately put red flags on anyone who reads it. Rockstar is known for rarely appearing on the E3 in any quality. Sometimes their games will appear on stage, but they never have a large stand or station where people can play their games. This is not how Rockstar does things. Any rumor that claims that E3 demonstrations or great E3 gameplay is revealing is most likely nonsense.

While Rockstar is filled with talented studios and developers, some of these rumors have claimed things that sound impossible to download on current generation consoles, not to mention the Xbox 360 or PS3. Like dynamic radio traffic reports, or almost any building, be dressed.

Grand Theft Auto 6 Rumors

Looking back at the GTA V rumors, it turns out that most of them were completely wrong. Which is not surprising. Random rumors spread through forums and Twitter are difficult to prove and easily offset. And as the clash for the next GTA continues to build, watch out for the confidence of rumors that may come online.

Remember these tips when you read a new rumor:

  • Does this sound like a true list of features or a fan that simply lists their dreams GTA features ?
  • Rockstar keeps older GTA games separate from today's games. So any rumor that claims "CJ is back" should be ignored.
  • The expired card or HUD looks a lot like GTA V or another open-world game? If so, it's probably fake.
  • Rockstar doesn't show E3 gameplay, so don't believe the rumors that say otherwise.

I get people excited about the GTA 6 but don't let that excitement cloud your judgment. Take every rumor with a grain of salt and always assume that random people on the internet are just trolling. Because they often are.
