Michael Gelman was the producer of Live over the years Regis and Kathie Lee Gifford and Kelly Ripa. He is still an executive producer for Live with Kelly and Ryan, Gelman and Philbin had a comically combative relationship during their working years. Philbin will invariably shout at the outside of the Gelman camera for one thing or another or vice versa.

He wrote in EW in July 2020 that “Regis said that he and I have a great father / son relationship, but that I am the father. I couldn’t agree more. Even in my early 20s, when I first started working with him, he was the naughty mixer and I was the one trying to keep him out of trouble. “

“[T]Hey, he broke the mold when they did, ”Gelman continued. “He was a son I never had and a bonus father, all in one. I will miss him as a friend, and I can only hope that he and Dean Martin sing “Penny from Heaven” together while Don Rickel is fucked by whites. “

In a conversation with the Television Academy Foundation in 2006, the father of four was asked how he would most like to be remembered. Without missing a beat, Philbin was ready to answer.

“Well,” he began, “I guess number one, a nice man who did his best to make you laugh and make you feel welcome on his show.” A lot of guys really, I feel, don’t care if you like their show or not. “

“I want people to enjoy what I do and understand what I do to enjoy them. That’s all I can ask for. “
