A new Show Show feature from Amazon is now available for some Lenovo laptops. When you enable this, it will change your home screen to look like the home screen of the smart Echo Show display, similar to the Show Mode feature on Amazon tablets. This means you’ll be able to make smart displays, such as manage smart home devices, look at the weather and headlines, and chat with Alexa – you know what you’ve always wanted to do on your ThinkPad.
The feature is currently available for computers with yoga, ThinkPad and IdeaPad, which has built-in Alexa, and is available in the US, UK, Germany, Japan, India, Ireland, Australia, Canada, France, Italy, Spain, Australia and New Zealand. Lenovo says it will reach more computers with Alexa enabled later this year.
Lenovo first announced this feature at CES 2021 with its Yoga Slim 9i. Chromebooks have had this feature for a while – they can act as Nest Hub Max when not in active use, although I can’t say I’ve ever taken advantage of this as a frequent Chromebook user.
Indeed, the display mode seems to be most useful for a device with a tablet form factor, which may not always be around the keyboard and touchpad. It can be great for the ThinkPad X12 Detachable, for example, although the X12 I reviewed earlier this year didn’t come with Alexa. But hey, if you want to try this on your clam, don’t let me stop you.
