How to: Force restart iPhone 12, enter recovery mode, DFU mode, etc. [Video]

Outside of the iPhone SE, every iPhone Apple sells today has an end-to-end display devoid of a physical Home button. If you are upgrading from a device with the Home button, this refresh rate can help you learn how to force your iPhone 12 to restart, enter recovery mode, DFU mode, and more. See our hands-on video tutorial inside for details.

We are getting ready to start

This tutorial will work for everything new versions of the iPhone 12, including the iPhone 12 Pro and the upcoming iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max. From now on, when I use the term iPhone 12, I mean all iPhone 12 models.

You will need to familiarize yourself with the buttons on your iPhone to perform any of the following functions. There are two volume buttons on the left side of the iPhone, along with a side button on the opposite side.

Because modern iPhone hardware lacks the Home button, the side button, along with the volume buttons, play instrumental roles when it comes to forced reset, enter recovery mode, DFU mode, and more.
