Delta said flight 337, which has 42 customers on board, started shortly before 10:00 a.m. Monday as forecasts showed crosswinds in the north and Nassau Airport was opened. But wind speeds increased while the flight was on the route, so it returned to Atlanta
The winds of Dorian hurricane decreased slightly, according to the National Hurricane Center .
Maximum sustained winds dropped to 145 mph – from 155 mph earlier in the day. However, the slowly moving storm continues to hit the islands.
It is centered about 25 miles northeast of Freeport, Grand Baham and about 105 miles east of West Palm Beach, Florida. The storm is expected to head to Florida between Monday night and Wednesday night, with the current schedule suggesting it will then move north along the coastlines of Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina.
