Hyper, a gadget manufacturer best known for its small and ultra-fast gallium nitride (GaN) chargers under the HyperJuice brand, is returning to Kickstarter with a new plug that is even more impressive than the latter: a GaN charger that can to maintain mesh-popping 1600W throughput. This follows Hyper’s first 100W GaN charger, launched on Kickstarter last fall and available for purchase in July.
The charger, which is available in a 65W option with three plugs (two USB-C and one USB-A) and a 100W option with four plugs (three USB-C and one USB-A), has a built-in plug with a power of 1
For reference, 100W is enough to power most laptops, while spending a second smartphone or tablet. Subtract the power laptop from the equation, and Hyper’s GaN chargers can easily support up to four devices at once – hence the four 100W brick plugs, although the company advertises its 100W model as capable of charging iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro simultaneously.
The real attraction here, however, is the tidy nature of the chargers, which allows you to keep in touch when you plug in the HyperJuice charger or put multiple together in one wall outlet to multiply the number of available ports.
9 to 5Mac must be included with the new HyperJuice to show its capabilities and looks like a seriously impressive and well-designed gadget:
Thanks to GaN, which is a much more efficient charging technology than traditional silicon and therefore allows for smaller and faster chargers, these chargers are as small as a box of mints. The 65W option measures 2.83 inches x 1.42 inches x 1.2 inches. The 100 W option is 3.36 inches x 1.77 inches x 1.20 inches.
These products are not cheap – the 65 W model will retail for $ 80 next year, while the 100 W model will cost $ 100. But the promise of Kickstarter today will take you to the queue for one launching in January 2021, with a special Kickstarter discount of 40%, as the 50% discount for early birds is already over.
Hyper surpassed its original $ 100,000 target with orders of more than $ 300,000 this afternoon, but the company has had quite a successful platform experience since last year’s campaign. And all of its previous devices are available on Amazon if you prefer to choose one now while you wait.
