It has been a month since a highly contagious mutation in the SARS-CoV-2 virus, discovered in the United Kingdom, made its way to the United States. The variant has since spread to at least 28 countries, with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) predicting it is likely to become the dominant strain in the United States by March. But in addition to being more transmissible, a new study has found that the COVID strain in the UK also differs in its symptoms. ; to avoid the new strain of COVID, warns Dr.

A new study by the UK’s National Statistics Office (ONS) analyzes the symptoms of a random sample of 6,000 patients in England who tested positive for coronavirus between mid-November and mid-January, the BBC reports. The test results show that 3,500 patients who tested for the new variant in the UK were more likely to get four symptoms, especially compared to the 2,500 who were found to be infected with other variants.

Experts believe that mutations in the form of SARS-CoV-2 are the cause of the sudden change in the way the disease manifests itself. “Some of these changes in different parts of the virus can affect the body’s immune response and also affect the range of symptoms associated with the infection,” Lawrence Young, A doctor of medicine, virologist and professor of molecular oncology at the University of Warwick in the UK, told the BBC.
