K-pop may not be literally as old as time, but it has certainly been the longest. With the birth of this pop-up and yet multifunctional genre, a whole new culture emerged and shaped the early teens of many. In fact, some of these veteran fans are still true to their musical taste and have seen K-pop grow from home-grown to a phenomenon that has conquered the world by storm.
As we travel down memory lane, here are seven things for K-pop that old-school fans will remember!
1. Where it all began: Gayo
Before this rich genre adopted K-pop as its umbrella term, it was known as " gayo " back in the day. Still used in Korea, gayo is a term that refers to mainstream music in South Korea, which also includes music from K-pop idols. 2. Generation of OG Idols
With K-pop a virus will appear inland, a new wave saw the light of day: idol culture. H.O.T., SECHSKIES, Fin.K.L, and S.E.S. were the leading groups of idols in the late 90's, and with that came the fever / fanboying fever. And it is still ardent!
As for solo careers, BoA and Rain are some of the most famous idols that have remained popular over the years as K-pop pioneers and their respective fandals faithfully accompany them on their difficult journey.
Introduced the second generation of idol with a rush of some of the hottest K-pop bands, such as Super Junior, Girls & # 39 ; Generation, BIGBANG, SHINee, 2PM, 2NE1, Wonder Girls; and the list goes on!
In the early days, listening to K-pop was a real challenge. There was no iTunes, Spotify or YouTube; there were only cartridges before the CDs came later. Fans had a physical collection that allowed them to enjoy their favorite songs and most of them burned a CD to create their own music library.
4. Unique Concepts
K-pop is known for many things and its special concepts are definitely a recurring feature. Style ranges from matching uniforms and swaying funky hairstyles to flaunting extravagant outfits and colorful hairstyles across generations.
5. Collective Boys / Girls Boys
Then the end of the year ceremonies were such a delight because of the many stages of working together between the groups of idols that crowned these awards. The most exciting of these were undoubtedly the man / girl collages, because it meant great cover-ups and more idol interaction!
6. Label Family Concerts
Another old but golden moment of the past is the long-awaited family concert used by various labels to celebrate. What used to be a regular tradition is slowly fading and not as common as before, but the good memories left behind are definitely not forgotten!
7, Parodies of the K-drama
Then, just when we thought that our favorite idols gave us the best in terms of fun , their acting talent is enlightening! Although the parodies of K-drama are few, they definitely remain as one of the finest souvenirs K-pop has brought us.
