Illinois reports nearly 2,000 cases of new coronavirus, passed 4 million tests – NBC Chicago

Illinois has reached another stage of testing during the coronavirus pandemic, as health officials say more than 4 million tests for COVID-19 have been performed since the pandemic began.

A total of 4,016,782 tests were performed during the pandemic, with 43,693 of these tests reported in the last 24 hours. It took Illinois just 22 days to perform 1,000,000 additional tests, as the state had reached the 3 million mark earlier this month.

With this new batch of tests in the last 24 hours, public health officials confirmed 1,992 new cases of coronavirus. This led to a total number of COVID-19 cases in the state of up to 233,355 during the pandemic.

On Sunday, the state reported 11 more deaths, with a total of 8,01

9 deaths related to the virus.

With today’s increase in cases and decrease in tests, the moving 7-day positivity rate rose from 4% to 4.2% on Sunday, reversing recent declines in that number.

Currently, 1,472 patients are hospitalized for COVID-19 in Illinois, with 328 of these patients in the intensive care unit. Currently, 155 patients with COVID-19 are on ventilators.
