Improved box result: Cubs 6, Indian 5 – September 15, 2020

LOL … Well, this is a boring way to get out of the game: Walk, single, HBP, HBP. But the victory of the Cubs is the victory of the Cubs! I will take it!

Now let’s cut back and talk about everything else.

When Yu Darvish started the game tonight, he certainly looked dominant, scoring two bases and a strikeout against the top of the Indians and extending the unbeaten streak of dice to 10.0 passes.

He also went through the second inning, releasing absolutely beautiful pitches like the one for strikes:

Unfortunately, he came across a very difficult contact after that, allowing 3 wins in 6 hits in the next 3.0 innings. And that includes this saving throw by Jason Hayward on the right:

At that moment, the Cleveland Indians took an irresistible lead with 3: 1 over the Chicago Cubs and that was the end of the game …

No.

The Indians took a 3-1 lead in a series of goals by Ian Happ (double), Chris Bryant (single, RBI) and Anthony Rizzo (double, RBI), which tied the game after five. This Cleveland team just can’t hold 3-1, can they? Like the World Series. In 2016, when they blew out of the 3-1 series. You know? Do you all understand?

Joke aside, although Darvish gave up a ton of hard contact (I’ll see that tomorrow) as well as 9 hits and a walk, he managed to make 7.0 strong innings for the fifth time this season, which fully supported the Cubs in the game. He may have hurt his chances at Cy Young a bit (ERA is now exactly 2.00), but he has more than done his job (this was his ninth quality start if you keep the score at home).

Offensively, the top of the order had a really good night: Ian Happ had his first game with a lot of punches since Sept. 5, Chris Bryant was on base three times (scoring the winning game), Anthony Rizzo reached four times, and Wilson Contreras reached three times, a large flight of RBI pouch at the bottom of the 7th and one of those HBPs on the 9th.

Now the walk technically goes to Cameron Maybin to get to the right place at the right time, but the game ball absolutely MUST go to Javy Baez, who not only reaches HBP and hosts tonight (on absolute BLAST to center field), he also did this:

It was a HUGE insurance that put pressure on Jeremy Jeffries to blow up the rescue tonight (more on him tomorrow), and everything we liked about Javy Baez.

The winners win. The winners win. Good night.

Score from the full box.
