In heart disease, medications can act, as in invasive surgery, basic trials

While invasive procedures have found improvement in chest pain and quality of life in some patients, other major outcomes are not significantly different – namely follow-up heart attack, hospitalization for unstable chest pain or heart failure, resuscitation after cardiac arrest and death for cardiovascular reasons.

Stents and bypass surgery are commonly used for patients with heart attacks, but whether to interfere with patients who are stable – who have blockages or chest pain during exercise but not acute heart attack – there is [19659002] The international study, launched in 2012, includes over 5,000 patients in 37 countries, making it the largest study of its kind, researchers said.

"Consistent with evidence from previous studies, our results indicate that routine use of cardiac procedures is not better at reducing the risk of fiftieth endpoint disease or death compared to optimal medical therapy alone, y" said President Judith Hochman in a statement Saturday.

"On the other hand, patients who are symptomatic of starting cardiac procedures have fewer symptoms over the years and feel better," says Hohman, Harold Snyder Family Professor of Medicine and Senior Associate Professor of Clinical Sciences at NYU Langone Health.
