49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan met with the media Monday afternoon to provide several injuries and updates to the team's condition. Shanahan said CB Ahkello Witherspoon and OT Joe Staley have an outside chance to play next Sunday against the Carolina Panthers. Witherspoon had a slight setback last week. Although Witherspoon is still likely to return on Sunday, Shanahan is not as hopeful as he was last week. Staley will try and train this week. The 49ers have been playing weekly since Thursday, so a break to two starts over those extra few days would make more sense.

"You know, two-thirds of our operation was gone. And you go back and learn different things and go through different situations where those situations have been pretty easy over the last two years. It's a growing experience for me. I think it's definitely an experience where I can take the first six weeks and that will certainly help me. "
Gold has missed more kicks this season than in his 15-year career. Shahanhan said that Matt Brad and Marquis Goodwin have passed a concussion protocol and will return to practice this week. Diego Samuel is also expected to return from a groin injury.
Speaking of receivers, Shanahan was asked to be in the market for a receiver, to which Shanahan said: "There are boys in our building. I think the answers are here. We still have hope for Jellen and Taylor. Something tells me this won't be the last time we talk about this quote.
