Instagram is helping the Vatican track the bikini model “like” that seems to come from the Pope

The Vatican’s Instagram and Facebook are collaborating to track the origins of “liking” in a post on a bikini model that appears to come from Pope Francis’ official account.

Social media users said last week that Pope Francis’ account appeared to be a sign of approval for a photo of Brazilian bikini model Natalia Gariboto wearing lavish gear. The Vatican said Francis himself was not responsible.

“The issue is currently being investigated in close contact with the Holy See,” a Facebook spokesman told Fox News.

A Vatican official confirmed on Friday that the “likes” did not come from the Holy See and that the Vatican was working with Instagram to determine what had happened.

The Pope has 7.4 million followers on Instagram.
